Egg Drop Challenge Rules....
THE EGG DROP CHALLENGE
“Help deliver our eggs safely to the ground!” A flock of seagulls has become stuck on the roof of the school. The eggs are rotting and rotting eggs attract fine young animals and he doesn’t want those running around the school! Mr. Bron cannot carry all the eggs down because he needs his open arms for the journey down the ladder. He is asking you to lighten his yoke by creating an invention that allows your egg to straighten up and fly right. The cure is to get them down before the police show up and count every egg we break. This invention needs to be ready for Friday December 4. You have exactly two weeks to design, create and decorate your invention! Good luck!
1. The challenge is to create an invention that will SAFELY deliver an egg from the roof to the ground.
2. The container will be dropped off the roof by an impartial judge.
*You may not use any kind of manufactured box, tube or carton (such as a Kellogg’s Cornflakes box, poster tube, toilet paper roll, or egg carton)! You may use the cardboard from at least three different boxes to create your own box! Basically, you must BUILD your project.
Parachutes and inflated balloons OUTSIDE your character are NOT permitted
3. The overall dimensions of the egg dropper should not be larger than 27,000 cubic centimetres. (30x30x30 or base x height x width). Not too small, not huge.
4. You may work on it alone or with your family members. "Hey Dad..."
5. Evaluation:
· Function: ease of entry (should not take more than one minute to place or rescue the egg). /5
· Finished product: Is your cartoon character detailed, neatly made, and carefully completed? /20
· Practicality: Does the egg splat, crack, or survive?

· Innovation: Is your design unique? Have you tried to be creative and defy gravity?

6. The school will provide eggs on the day of the drop. Do not bring your project to school with an egg in it. (Do feel free to test your product at home with an egg, though).

Egypt Project
TASK 1: BOOK COVER
Design a cover for your book. Make it colorful, neat, eye-catching, and of course carefully put together. Include a title, your name as the author, the publisher (SCMS Publishers), and when it was published (copyright date). You may also want to dream up editors and illustrators etc.
TASK 2: GEOGRAPHY
On a blank map of Egypt, and using the textbooks and websites, label these features:
Cities: Alexandria, Thebes, Cairo, Memphis
Physical features: Mediterranean Sea, Red Sea, Nile River, Libyan Desert, Nubian Desert, Nile Delta, (Capital letters for these)
Significant Sites: Valley of the Kings, Khufu’s Pyramid, The Great Sphinx (RED pen for these)
Colour all water a shade of light BLUE, and all land a shade of light YELLOW.

Also include on the timeline: The three kingdoms (Old Kingdom, Middle Kingdom, New Kingdom)

3. Recreation - Did ancient Egyptians play any games? Could anyone participate? Explain.

TASK 6: ECONOMIC AND TECHNOLOGICAL INNOVATION
Read the section about trade on pgs.37-38, 43-44 of the Story of the Old World. Answer the following questions in complete sentences:
In what ways did the Ancient Egyptians transport their goods?
Who did they trade with?
What items and goods did they import and export?
How did they pay for their goods? How did this system evolve over time?
Given the lack of fertile land, include 3 ways in which the implementation of irrigation improved their quality of life?

Draw a pyramid; colour it and then label the different parts. Next, using the internet sites and information from the video compose a paragraph answering the following questions:
How were pyramids built? Who built them? Why were they built? What was their purpose?
