Baby Pictures

It's time to bring in those baby pictures for the year end slideshow.  You can either email it to your teacher (high resolution) or bring in a hard copy for scanning (it will be returned).  Remember one picture per student and try to get something that really shows off your cuteness!

Shoes: the new policy

After spring break we expect all students will:

  • haveinside shoes
  • have outside shoes
  • change from inside to/from outside shoes at the school doors
For some reason, dirt loves to travel in to our school by catching a ride on students' shoes.  We hope this action will make our school a cleaner place.

Egg Drop: Wednesday

On Wednesday the grade 7 class hosts the annual egg drop.  Themed after cartoons and comics, eggs will fly from the middle school roof shortly after 11:00am.  Bring an umbrella.  Students should bring their devices in a plastic bag to protect them from the rain.  You can learn more about the egg drop and its rules here.

Eric Walters

Today Eric Walters came and spoke to our grade 6 and 7 students at the Surrey Public Library (Fleetwood Branch).  While talking about his books, he also gave some great advice to students with great lines like: "Please do not pass up the opportunity to do the right thing!"  You can learn more about Eric and his books at http://www.ericwalters.net/ericwalters/homepage.html.  You can also check out some of his contributions on YouTube such as Alexandria of Africa:

Egg Drop FAQ

Are we allowed to use a bag as a parachute?  No, parachutes!
What types of materials are we allowed to use?  Anything you want that’s not on the do not use list.
Can we use a box?  You can use pieces from a box.
Are we working on this in class?  Nope.
Can we rip pillows and use the insides?  Sure.
How high is the roof from the ground?  About two stories high.  Maybe 40 feet or so.  It’s high enough to break an egg if dropped unprotected.

Are we allowed on the roof?  The roof is for the egg drop projects.
Can we use wings?  To create drag—sure.
If it’s bigger than the rules state, what happens?  Probably not much, though you may be docked design points.  This is more of a guideline than a hard rule.
Can we do a part of a character or must it be the entire character?  A portion is fine.  Remember we have just chosen a theme for you.
Can we use electronics?  Nope.  This is a free fall exercise.
Can we do food?  Sure, so long as it matches the theme.
Can we use helium?  Um, let’s say no to this one.
Can we use play dough? Sure.
Can we ‘cartoonize’ anything we want, such as One Direction?  Um, let’s say no.
Can we use pieces of a stuffed animal? Sure.
Can we use bubble wrap? It’s not mentioned in the rules.  J
Can we use Lego?  No.
Can we use marshmallows? Sure.
